Dentures improve quality of life for Atlantis, FL patients
Replacing one or a few missing teeth creates a tremendous improvement in your smile, speech, oral health, and nutrition. Getting a whole new set of teeth can be life changing. The dentists at Atlantis Dental Care improve the lives of their patients in the Atlantis, FL area using the latest design techniques and materials for dentures.
Types of dentures
We work with a trusted dental laboratory to create dentures with a terrific fit. Every detail, from the type of materials, to tooth shape and size, and bite balance is carefully considered. The color of gums and teeth is selected to enhance facial appearance.
A partial denture replaces one or several teeth in the same arch. A removable partial denture has hard plastic teeth. Metal clasps anchor the denture to existing teeth. This can be an economical alternative to a fixed bridge or dental implants. However, it is not as stable, and must be replaced more frequently. A full denture replaces all teeth in an arch. It is held in place by facial muscles and natural suction, sometimes with the aid of denture adhesive. A full upper denture covers the palate, so there is some impairment in temperature sensation and taste. Complete dentures are full upper and lower arches designed to work together to reinstate chewing function, speech, and appearance. An immediate denture is designed in advance and inserted right after teeth are extracted. The patient does not have to be seen without teeth, and the denture protects the mouth. However, fit must be adjusted when healing is complete.
Dentures with a big difference
Atlantis Dental Care is also pleased to offer implant supported dentures. Specially-designed dental implants (four or six per arch) are placed into the jawbone. Bone fuses solidly with the implants. Dentures contain connectors that snap over abutments on the implants. The result is an amazing level of stability. Implant retained dentures are the only type that fully support back teeth and help to preserve strong facial bone (avoiding a recessed mouth).
