4 Tooth Replacement Options for Missing Teeth
Teeth are important, and if you have missing teeth, you probably know this even better. Not only do teeth help you show off your smile, but they also help you maintain your health. If you do not have a full set of teeth, it can be hard to speak or chew. Luckily, you have several options available to you when it comes to replacing them.
1. Dental implants
Getting a dental implant involves a surgical procedure to place an implant to act as the root. This will fuse with the jawbone over the next several months. One or more false teeth will be placed over it. This is a good option for replacing one or even two teeth.
However, some patients may not want to try this option for several teeth. Of course, dental implants can last for many years. These teeth can give the feel and look of natural teeth, lasting for years or decades. The teeth do not need to be replaced or repaired during that time.
2. Fixed bridges
These can bridge the gap between missing teeth. The process to put it in will take a few trips to the general dentist. It takes time to place a bridge, customize it, and place it in the right spot. However, once it is in place, it feels and looks just like natural teeth. Plus, it does not need to be removed for cleaning. The price may be better than getting a dental implant.
3. Resin retained bridge
This can be a less invasive procedure than with a fixed bridge. This is a good option for replacing the front teeth since it may not be as sturdy. The front teeth do not have chewing forces on them. The resin is the only thing that holds it to the teeth. It will attach to the nearby teeth on either side. Even though these are not as durable as fixed bridges, these can be less expensive.
4. Partial or complete dentures
Partial dentures have replacement teeth for a smaller section of missing teeth in the mouth. These function and look like the normal teeth. However, the denture may not last as long as some other replacement options. Plus, these might not be as comfortable for long-term use. The good news is that these are easy to replace.
For a full set of missing teeth, a complete denture may suit the patient’s needs better. This will replace all of the teeth on the upper or lower arch. It is functional and aesthetic. However, a patient will not wear it for 24 hours a day.
