Crowns and Bridges
Teeth can become damaged for so many reasons. Whether you’ve had trouble staying on top of your home-care routine, you grind or clench your teeth, or you’ve had the misfortune of biting down into a hidden olive pit; if you have decayed, cracked or worn down teeth, you need help. That’s what we are here for.
Crowns are one of our most versatile restorative and cosmetic dentistry options. They can protect teeth that have been damaged or weakened, conceal teeth that are discolored or unusually shaped, and build up teeth that are worn down. We can also use crowns as part of a dental implants system to replace teeth that are missing.
Today’s modern crowns are made from porcelain, a beautiful, durable material that can be shaded to perfectly match the natural shade of your teeth. It’s nearly impossible to tell a crowned tooth from your own teeth, so all anyone will notice is your beautiful smile!
Crowns are a tooth-shaped cover that fits right over the top of your own tooth and covers it all the way down to the gumline. Sometimes, crowns are referred to as “caps.”
Getting a crown is a simple process. At your initial appointment, once we’ve determined that a crown is the best treatment option, we will shape your tooth to prepare it for the crown. This helps your restoration fit properly among your other teeth.
Next, your restorative dentist in Atlantis, Lake Worth and Boynton Beach, Dr. Yagi Patel, will take impressions and photos. These, along with Dr. Patel’s precise instructions, will be sent to the lab we trust with our restorations. You’ll be fitted with a temporary crown to protect your teeth until your permanent crown is ready.
As soon as your crown comes back from the lab, we’ll call you back to our office to place your permanent crown. We’ll check the fit, and you’ll be all set!
Are missing teeth ruining your day? In addition to marring an otherwise charming smile, missing teeth can affect your speech, the health of your mouth, and your ability to eat the foods you love. We don’t think you should have to put up with the hassle of missing teeth, and we have several options to help.
One tried-and-true technique that is affordable and convenient is a dental bridge. This restoration fills in the gap left by your missing tooth or teeth with replacement teeth that are created to blend in beautifully with your existing dentistry. The bridge is held in place by crowns that are fitted over either the immediately adjacent teeth or dental implants. We are happy to discuss both of these options and help you decide which is right for you.
Filling in missing teeth is more than just an aesthetic issue. Missing teeth damage the alignment of your bite, changing the way your teeth come together. This can cause you to develop habits like grinding or clenching your teeth, which not only causes pain in the jaw, but can also do a great deal of damage to the rest of your teeth. A bridge helps to complete the chewing surface, so that you feel more comfortable.
If you’re ready to learn more, please give our office a call today. We’ll schedule a one-on-one evaluation with Dr. Patel so that you can look at all of your options for replacing your missing teeth and restoring your smile.
